The Togolese Embassy in London becomes a High Commission

After Togo’s flag was raised for the first time at Commonwealth headquarters in London on Thursday, the Togolese embassy in the UK also became a high commission.

As tradition dictates, a special flag-raising ceremony took place on yesterday in the presence of the Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Dr Arjoon Suddhoo, and the President of the Togolese Republic, Faure Gnassingbé.

After the various speeches, the flag of Togo was ceremonially raised on the roof of Marlborough House to the sound of the national anthem of Togo with admiring guests.

By joining the Commonwealth, the Togolese Embassy in London officially becomes a High Commission. To mark the occasion, a plaque commemorating the move was unveiled.

Togo will now also be able to participate in major Commonwealth summits and ministerial meetings that bring together heads of government, from developed and developing countries, to help amplify collective action on global challenges.
