In Togo, the Autonomous Port of Lomé (PAL), engaged during the last decade in a process of modernization, has just acquired a new internal road and a new system of various networks.
The port infrastructure has indeed taken delivery of the rehabilitation work carried out since February 2020 by the French company Eiffage.
The site, financed by the Boad, consisted of the systematic resumption of the pavement structure according to the requirements of the traffic which evolves in an exceptional way in recent years, the replacement of almost all the networks of water, electricity and telephone, the complete recovery of the wastewater treatment network, the installation of an optical fiber network on the entire platform.
“ The purpose of this rehabilitation is to ensure a good movement of people and goods, safety, security, and speed in the exit of goods, which will increase the visibility of the port platform and its competitiveness,” indicated the government.
Two years ago, the Unctad congratulated the PAL for its “exponential development”. An opinion shared a few months later by a delegation from the HAROPA ports.
As a reminder, the Port of Lomé has more than tripled its activities in recent years, particularly in the transhipment segment where it ranked 2nd in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2019.
A performance that earned it being chosen as strategic base throughout the continent by the Italian-Swiss shipowner MSC.
In 2020, despite the slowdown in economic activity caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the infrastructure nevertheless recorded a 12% increase in its traffic.
