This new attack took place at 3 a.m. in the canton of Gnoaga and Gouloungoussi close the borders between Togo, Ghana and Burkina Faso.

According to relayed information, the fight lasted about three hours between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. The attack was repelled by the Togolese army which finally took control of the area.

“It is thanks to one of our ambushes which made it possible to surprise them outside the post of Goulingoushi located in the extreme north-west” said the spokesperson of the Togolese army, Colonel Soussou Samah.

Although the government has not yet given details on the incident, this military source indicated that no damage was reported on the Togo side.

“There were no deaths or injuries on the Togo side,” he said before adding that “the sweeps by the defense and security forces of Togo deployed in the locality are continuing” with a view to assess “damage on the enemy side”.

This new terrorist incursion is recorded after the murderous one of May 11, 2022. The Kpékpakandi attack left 8 dead and 13 injured in the ranks of the Togolese armed forces.

This is the third time that Togo has been targeted by terrorists. On the night of November 9 to 10, 2021, a first attack attempt was vigorously repelled by the soldiers.
