Almost a year after his appointment, the new Apostolic Nuncio to Togo, Monsignor Mark Gérard Miles, is now officially accredited. The Togolese head of State , Faure Gnassingbé, received the diplomat’s credentials on Monday.
The ceremony, which took place in Lomé, was also an opportunity for the two personalities to discuss several subjects: relations between the Holy See and Togo, the contribution of the Church to the development of the country in all sectors , or Peace, Security and Stability in the world.
Former English-speaking interpreter of the Sovereign Pontiff then permanent observer of the City-State to the Organization of American States in Washington, Monsignor Miles will also cover Benin, where he resides.
As a reminder, Lomé and the Vatican City have maintained diplomatic relations since 1971. In addition to the promotion of inter-religious dialogue, the culture of peace and living together, the Holy See intervenes in education, training and health.
