Jamaica and the Togolese Republic on Tuesday formalized the establishment of diplomatic relations in a ceremony at the offices of the Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the United Nations.

The ceremony was marked by the conclusion of an agreement between the two countries:

Brian Wallace, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the United Nations, signed the Joint Communiqué for his country.

Therefore, Ambassador Kokou Kpayedo, Permanent Representative of Togo to the United Nations, for his part signed on behalf of the Togolese Republic.

According to the Jamaican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries is historic and is in line with the government’s commitment to deepen its relations with the African continent and to identify specific opportunities to strengthen the trade and investment.

Minister and Senator Kamina Johnson Smith welcomed the new agreement in a tweet on Thursday.
