Covid-19-Togo’s land borders finally reopened

The Togolese government has finally decided on Monday to reopen the country’s land borders, which have been closed since March 2020 due to the famous Covid-19 pandemic.

“Taking into account the observed slowdown in the spread of the Covid-19 disease, the following measures are being taken: Land borders are reopened throughout the national territory from Tuesday May 17 at midnight; Movement is therefore free for travelers subject to the presentation of proof of vaccination,” said a joint press release from the Ministry of Territorial Administration, Decentralization and Territorial Development, and the Ministry of Security and Civil Defense.

“The Government invites the entire population to maintain vigilance, to respect barrier measures and to adhere to the current vaccination campaign,” the press release adds.

Several Ghanaian personalities have recently urged the Togolese Head of State, Faure Gnassingbé, to lift border restrictions with their country, after his Ghanaian counterpart, Nana Akufo-Addo announced on March 25 the reopening of all land borders and maritime.
